Charleston Model Yacht Club Sailing Instructions
IT IS THE INTENT AND MISSION OF CMYC THAT SAILING BE ENJOYABLE. GUEST SKIPPERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME AND EVERY EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE AND ALTERNATE CRYSTAL SETS SHOULD A FREQUENCY CONFLICT ARISE. Y’ALL COME SAIL WITH US
1. CMYC welcomes you to James Island County Park. We feel this is a great sailing venue. To the best of our knowledge there are no obstructions in the lake and the shores are free of debris.
2. There will be no dip starts. Between the first starting time, (one minute to mark), and the starting gun all yachts will honor the starting line. A yacht over early shall return by rounding either start mark outside the starting line
3. Yachts hitting marks on the proper side shall continue the rounding and render a 360 degree penalty before the next mark. Yachts hitting marks on the wrong side shall first round the mark properly then render a 360 degree penalty before the next mark.
4. At the Race Directors discretion, and if so stated before racing starts, there will be no penalty for hitting a far mark. The far mark shall be rounded on the proper side.
5. All protests must be in the form “PROTEST (sail number)”. Protested yachts may exonerate themselves by completing a 360 degree turn prior to the next mark, a 720 degree turn may be in place on some race days at the discretion of the Race Director. Yachts doing penalty turns shall be accorded NO rights, if called upon by a protest participant; the Race Director/Marks Judge may render a judgment on the water. Skippers who take a protest to committee will be assessed four (4) points if found against and the score may not be used as a throw out.
6. The Race Director may assess last place plus four (4) points if a skipper is disqualified and the resulting score may not be used as a throw out. Disqualifications are at the discretion of the Race Director.
7. Yachts with a valid protest incurred during pre-start shall complete penalty turns after correctly starting but prior to the first mark.
8. Skippers shall clearly call their sail number when finishing. It is the skipper’s responsibility to ensure the Race Director has recorded your correct finishing position.
9. Yachts shall stay clear of the finish line after finishing and may not re-cross the finish line or its extensions until the last boat has crossed the finish line. Any yacht which, after finishing, causes a yacht still racing to alter course shall be assessed a four (4) point penalty. This penalty is at the discretion of the Race Director/Marks Judge and is not negotiable
