Charleston Model Yacht Club

EC-12 Class Points Race Series

The purpose of this document is to serve as the Notice of Regatta (NOR) and outline the procedures of Charleston Model Yacht Club’s EC-12 Points Race Series (PRS). The PRS sailing season will begin with the first race being conducted in the month of June and will end in May of the following year. This series will determine our EC-12 Fleet Club Champion and the winner will have his/her name placed on the perpetual trophy which will remain in their possession until the following year.

When: The PRS races will be scheduled on the last Sunday of every month. In case of a conflict with the EC-12 National sailing schedule or a holiday, the race will be moved forward one week. Notice of changes of date will be posted on our club site and through email. Skippers meetings will be held at 10:15 am with the first start at 10:30 am.

Where: Our primary sailing site will be the James Island County Park at 871 Riverland Dr. Charleston, SC 29412. Our Alternate site is Whitney Lake on Johns Island. Please see the links on our club website for maps and directions.

Who: Any skipper with a properly registered and class legal EC-12 may sail. AMYA membership is recommended.

Fleet size: A minimum of three boats must be present for the race to be counted as part of the PRS. If three boats don’t show up, a make-up day will be scheduled and posted on the club site.

Races: 9 races are scheduled for each point race day. At least five races must be sailed to be counted towards the PRS. If all five are not completed, a make- up day will be scheduled and posted on the club site.

Scoring: The EC-12 PRS is scored using a high point system. At the end of the days racing when the results have been calculated, each skipper will receive 4 points for just showing up as long as they competed in at least one race. Each skipper will also be awarded 1 point for every yacht that they beat. A spread sheet with the standings will be maintained on the club site throughout the year. At the end of the PRS season, each skipper’s top 6 scores will be used to determine the EC-12 Fleet Club Champion.
