EC-12 Sailing Instructions

Races are governed by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) as modified by appendix E, the prescriptions of US Sailing when they apply, the rules of the EC-12 Meter Class, these sailing instructions and any amendments to them. The Notice of Race and Points Race Procedures are considered part of these sailing instructions.

·        The courses, as well as the starting and finishing lines, shall be selected by the Race Director (RD).
·        The AMYA one minute CD will be used to signal the starting sequence.
·        If a skipper touches his/her boat within the 60 second starting sequence, they must hold on to it and then release
      it after the starting bell.
·        All boats will sail together in a single fleet. There will be a short break after the first race for tuning and a 15
minute break after the fifth race is sailed.
·        Round-an-End rule (RRS 30.1) applies at the start.
·        The one turn penalty (360) will apply unless otherwise notified by the RD.
·        The Low Point Scoring System of the RRS appendix A will apply.
·        9 races will be conducted weather permitting with 5 necessary for the day to count in the points series.
·        Each skipper’s highest score will be thrown out if all 9 races are completed.
·        Marks that may be touched (if any) will be announced by the RD.
·        A boat lagging behind the rest of the fleet may be called as last place by the RD provided it started correctly.
·        Protest notification shall be in accordance with RRS E 5.2. Politely hail protest and the sail number twice.
If a protest is to go to committee, the RD must be notified within two minutes after the race is finished. Protest
hearings will take place during the next break for the fleet.
·        A request for redress will be heard by a committee appointed by the RD only in the case of damage,
dismasting, or severe entanglement for the right of way boat. The average of the previous 4 scores will
be used and if 4 have not been sailed, the average once 4 have been sailed will be used.
·        Each skipper is entitled to one 5 minute hold for repairs or battery replacement.
·        The RD may impose a time limit for a race and such a time limit will be announced prior to the race.
·        These sailing instructions may be amended by the race committee orally or in writing. (RRS 89.2c)
is modified to allow oral changes to be communicated on shore. Written changes, if any, will be posted
around the scoring table prior to the skippers meeting.
